Speculation over the marriage of Bollywood veteran Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja intensified after reports surfaced that Sunita had filed for divorce. However, the actor’s lawyer and a close family friend have dismissed the rumours, assuring that the couple continues to stand together and will celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi as a family.
Divorce Petition and Court Proceedings
Reports suggest that Sunita Ahuja filed a divorce petition on December 5, 2024, at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion under Sections 13(1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
While Sunita has reportedly attended hearings regularly, Govinda’s limited appearances prompted the court to issue a show-cause notice in May 2025.
Lawyer’s Statement: “Everything Is Being Settled”
Addressing the speculation, Govinda’s lawyer Lalit Bindra told NDTV, “Koi case nahi, sab settle ho raha hai. Ye sab log purani cheezen utha ke daal rahe hain” (“There is no case, everything is being settled; people are just dredging up old matters”).
Family Friend on the Couple’s Bond
A close family friend echoed this view, describing marital ups and downs as normal and stressing that Sunita remains the anchor in Govinda’s life. “Without Sunita, he would be lost,” the friend remarked. They also confirmed that the couple will observe Ganesh Chaturthi together, inviting well-wishers to witness their unity.
Sunita’s Emotional Responses
In recent months, Sunita herself has spoken about the rumours. In an emotional vlog, she recalled praying to Goddess Mahalaxmi for a happy marriage and warned that those trying to create rifts in her home would face divine consequences.
Earlier in May 2025, during an interview with Times Now, Sunita firmly dismissed divorce reports, stressing that Govinda would never abandon his family. She added that if anything were truly wrong, she would directly address the public.
Family Life Amid Speculation
Despite the rumours, a glimpse into their household suggested calm. Their son Yashvardhan Ahuja recently shared a photo from a home pooja, which even included the family’s pet dog—reflecting normalcy and togetherness amid media speculation.
