Operation Sindoor: A Defining Moment in India’s Strategic Journey
Addressing a joint press conference, former Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said the May 7, 2025 operation was ‘possibly a defining moment in India’s strategic journey’ and reflected a major shift in India’s response framework against terrorism.
Key Highlights of Operation Sindoor
The operation saw India carry out nine stand-off precision strikes, including seven by the Indian Army and two by the Indian Air Force, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as well as mainland Pakistan.
India’s Growing Indigenous Defence Capability
The operation highlighted India’s growing indigenous defence capability, with systems such as the BrahMos missile and Akash missile system playing a key role, proving that ‘Atmanirbhar is not just a slogan; it is indeed a force multiplier’.
Conflict Termination and Future Strategy
Ghai stressed that India deliberately avoided a prolonged military confrontation, striking hard, achieving clearly defined objectives, and then deciding to cease hostilities when the Pakistanis were compelled to negotiate and requested to stop.
