Cloudburst in Tharali, Uttarakhand Causes Widespread Damage; CM Dhami Monitors Rescue Efforts

A cloudburst in Tharali, Chamoli district, late last night has caused extensive damage, leaving residents trapped under rubble and infrastructure severely affected.

The sudden downpour led to debris flooding homes and blocking key roads, while several vehicles were buried under mud and rubble. Local authorities confirmed that in Sagwada village, a 20-year-old girl is feared trapped under debris, and another resident has also been reported missing.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration, and police are on the ground, carrying out relief and rescue operations.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Response
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern and assured continuous monitoring of the situation. In a post on social media, he stated:

“Late last night, a tragic report of a cloudburst was received in the Tharali area of Chamoli district. The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant touch with officials and am personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”

Rescue Efforts Underway
Authorities are prioritizing the search for missing individuals and clearing blocked routes. Heavy machinery has been deployed to remove debris and restore connectivity. Relief teams are also working to ensure that residents in affected areas receive shelter and assistance.

Officials have urged locals to remain cautious, as weather conditions in the region remain unpredictable.
