Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of major infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over ₹6,300 crore in Assam. The projects span across key sectors including healthcare, energy, and connectivity, aimed at accelerating the state’s growth.
Addressing a public gathering at Mangaldoi in Darrang district, the Prime Minister said that India is the fastest growing country in the world and Assam has emerged as one of the fastest growing states. He stressed that the North East region holds a vital role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Highlighting the importance of the region, Mr. Modi said:
“The next part of the 21st century belongs to the global East and North East of the country. Fast connectivity is crucial for rapid development, and our government has prioritized this for the region.”
The Prime Minister also urged citizens to become brand ambassadors of the “Vocal for Local” initiative and take pride in Swadeshi products, promoting self-reliance and local industries.
Paying tribute to cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika, Mr. Modi said, “Bhupen Da gave voice to India’s unity. Conferring Bharat Ratna on him reflects our government’s commitment to the North East.”
On the occasion, Mr. Modi was felicitated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Among the inaugurated projects is the Darrang Medical College, which is expected to significantly enhance healthcare facilities in the region.
These initiatives underline the Centre’s focus on inclusive development and strengthening the North East’s role in India’s growth story.
