PM Modi meets Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tianjin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, where he engaged in high-level discussions with global leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the summit, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to regional cooperation under the SCO framework and extended support for China’s chairmanship. Ahead of the full session, President Xi warmly welcomed the Indian Prime Minister, marking a positive tone for bilateral exchanges on the sidelines of the multilateral gathering.

PM Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin was particularly noteworthy, reflecting the continuing strong ties between New Delhi and Moscow. Sharing his experiences on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi posted, “Interactions in Tianjin continue! Exchanging perspectives with President Putin and President Xi during the SCO Summit.” In another post, accompanied by a photograph with the Russian leader, he wrote, “Always a delight to meet President Putin!”

The 25th SCO Summit comes at a crucial time for regional geopolitics, with discussions centered on security cooperation, connectivity, and economic growth. India has consistently emphasized the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and collective action in addressing regional challenges.

The Prime Minister’s engagements in Tianjin also serve to underscore India’s active role within the SCO, as the grouping continues to expand its global influence. With leaders of China, Russia, and other member states present, the summit provided a platform for New Delhi to strengthen diplomatic outreach and contribute to shaping the regional agenda.
