PM Modi: Next-Gen GST Reforms to Begin on First Day of Navratri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said next-gen GST reforms will come into force from tomorrow on the first day of Navratri.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that the next-generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms will come into effect from tomorrow, marking the start of Navratri. Along with this, the GST Bachat Utsav will also begin, enabling citizens to buy goods at reduced prices.

In his national address, PM Modi said these reforms will reshape India’s growth story and provide major benefits to youth, the neo-middle class, farmers, women, and entrepreneurs. He underlined that every state will be an equal partner in the country’s development journey. Extending greetings for Navratri and the GST Bachat Utsav, he said the reforms would strengthen cooperative federalism.

The Prime Minister highlighted that his government has been focused on simplifying India’s tax system since 2014. He recalled that dozens of taxes were abolished after discussions with states and stakeholders, paving the way for GST as a unified tax regime. Essential items, medicines, and health insurance were brought under the 5% tax bracket, easing the financial burden on households.

Expressing satisfaction over poverty reduction, PM Modi said that 25 crore people have come out of poverty in the last 12 years. He noted that the neo-middle class has fresh aspirations, and the new reforms would ease their tax liabilities. Appliances, vehicles, and even tourism-related services such as hotel stays are expected to become more affordable, providing a double bonanza for citizens.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhavah” (Citizens are Divine), PM Modi urged MSMEs to focus on high-quality manufacturing to enhance India’s global reputation.

With the rollout of next-gen GST reforms, the government aims to create a simplified, transparent, and citizen-friendly tax ecosystem that will not only reduce costs for families but also encourage industrial growth and job creation.
