Swachhata Hi Seva 2025: Indian Railways Promotes Cleanliness Through Street Play and Cultural Events

Indian Railways celebrated Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 with a cultural programme at Rail Bhavan, featuring street plays, songs, and poems to spread awareness on cleanliness. Senior Railway Board officials urged employees to pledge for a cleaner India.

As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan 2025, the Railway Board organized a vibrant cultural programme at Vichar Sabha Hall, Rail Bhavan, highlighting the importance of cleanliness and hygiene among employees.

The event featured a series of performances, including street plays, songs, and poetry recitals, designed to spread awareness about healthy sanitation practices. The programme was attended by senior officials, including Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, Member (Finance) Usha Venugopal, Member (Infrastructure) Naveen Gulati, Director General (RPF) Sonali Mishra, Director General (Human Resources) R. Rajgopal, Director General (Safety) Hari Shankar Verma, and Secretary, Railway Board Aruna Nayar, along with a large gathering of railway staff.

In his keynote address, Shri Satish Kumar underlined the significance of collective participation in cleanliness drives, recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to citizens to dedicate 100 hours a year—or two hours every week—to shramdaan (voluntary service) for cleanliness. He urged employees to take a pledge to remain vigilant about hygiene and actively contribute towards maintaining clean villages, towns, railway stations, and public spaces.

The cultural programme began with a soulful Saraswati Vandana presented by Apoorva Pratibha and Pankaj Vishal, followed by a group song on Swachhata Mission performed by the Railway Board’s cultural troupe. A powerful street play vividly depicted the benefits of cleanliness, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Adding a creative touch, poets T. P. Chawla, Harsh Singh, Divya Khurana, and Pankaj Vishal recited their self-composed poems on the theme of cleanliness, resonating deeply with the audience.

The event was coordinated by Joint Secretary T. Srinivas and smoothly conducted with stage compering by Ms. Preeti Maan.

With this initiative, the Indian Railways reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s vision of a cleaner and healthier India through community participation and awareness.
