Trump to Discuss TikTok Ownership Deal with Xi Jinping

President Trump is set to discuss a TikTok ownership deal with President Xi Jinping, under which the app would be controlled by U.S. investors. China welcomed the framework agreement as a “win-win” and plans to review technology export conditions.

U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to discuss finalizing an agreement on the ownership of the popular video-sharing app TikTok.

During a joint news conference at Chequers on his second state visit, President Trump said he would speak with Xi Jinping to determine whether both sides could settle the details of the deal. He emphasized TikTok’s influence during his election campaign and reiterated that the app would be entirely owned by American investors once the agreement is concluded.

Earlier this week, negotiators from Washington and Beijing reached a framework agreement reportedly involving the transfer of TikTok’s ownership to U.S. investors and several major American companies.

On Wednesday, China’s Ministry of Commerce described the deal, which was reached in Madrid, as a “win-win” arrangement. Beijing confirmed that it would review TikTok’s technology exports and intellectual property licensing as part of the regulatory process before the ownership transfer is finalized.

The outcome of the Trump–Xi talks could mark a significant turning point in the long-running dispute over TikTok’s ownership and data security, which has been a key flashpoint in U.S.-China relations.
