Kathmandu: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki took oath on Friday as the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government. The decision came after three days of intensive political discussions and a series of formal consultations at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, earlier this morning.
Karki, who earlier made history as Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice, has now become the country’s first woman Prime Minister. Known for her integrity and fearless judicial career, she is widely seen as a symbol of reform and accountability.
President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to dissolve the House of Representatives soon, paving the way for the new interim administration. Karki is also preparing to announce her Cabinet, which may include representatives from Nepal’s Gen Z community — a move aimed at addressing the growing public demand for generational change in politics.
Her appointment comes amid widespread protests led by young demonstrators who have been calling for the dissolution of Parliament and an interim government free from entrenched political leaders accused of corruption.
