KL Rahul added another remarkable achievement to his IPL career by becoming the first player in tournament history to score 1000 runs for three different franchises.
The milestone came during Delhi Capitals’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday evening at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Rahul reached the landmark in the sixth over of Delhi Capitals’ innings when he slashed a full delivery from Kartik Tyagi towards deep backward point for a boundary. The shot not only brought up four runs but also helped him cross the 1000-run mark for Delhi Capitals.
First Player to Achieve Unique IPL Feat
Before joining Delhi Capitals, Rahul had successful stints with Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
Representing Punjab Kings between 2018 and 2021, Rahul scored an impressive 2548 runs and remains the franchise’s highest run-scorer. Later, while captaining Lucknow Super Giants from 2022 to 2024, he accumulated 1410 runs and currently stands as the team’s second-highest run-getter.
With his latest achievement for Delhi Capitals, Rahul has now become the first cricketer in IPL history to score more than 1000 runs for three different teams.
Fastest to 1000 Runs for Delhi Capitals
Rahul also broke another franchise record by becoming the fastest batter to reach 1000 IPL runs for Delhi Capitals. He achieved the feat in just 23 innings, surpassing the previous record of 35 innings jointly held by JP Duminy and Rishabh Pant.
His outstanding form in IPL 2026 has made him one of the most consistent performers of the season. Rahul recently smashed a record-breaking 152 against Punjab Kings, further cementing his role as the backbone of Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup.
Among IPL 2026’s Top Performers
Rahul is currently the third-highest run-scorer in IPL 2026, scoring 468 runs in 11 matches at an explosive strike rate of 180.
In the all-time list for the fewest innings taken to score 1000 IPL runs for a franchise, Chris Gayle leads the chart after reaching the milestone in just 20 innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Shaun Marsh follows with 21 innings for Punjab Kings, while Lendl Simmons achieved the feat in 24 innings for Mumbai Indians.
Rahul’s consistency and adaptability across franchises continue to underline his status as one of the premier batters in IPL history.
